WELCOME TO THE BAMBOO BRIDGE
Bamboo is a type of grass of which there are many varieties. It grows in different climates, both temperate and tropical, and can be found high on mountainsides and in the jungle. Bamboo is flexible and bends in strong winds; but it rarely breaks. Bamboo, a metaphor from the natural world, symbolizes the essence of the ongoing cultural diplomacy associated with crossing the cultural bridge and mending the gaps between technology and tradition.

What is The Bamboo Bridge?

The Bamboo Bridge is a community of partners that provides greater public access to health information, resources, education, research and consultancy services through cultural diplomacy. We use solution-focused negotiation and peacemaking communication in our efforts to inspire health care and reform that bridges the gaps that have formed for generations between enduring cultural traditions and emerging technologies that define health science and the art of healing. Bamboo Bridge Partners provide learning opportunities in cultural diplomacy for nurses, physicians, health practitioners, healers and the public. We also provide educational events and consultancy on indigenous knowledge systems (IKS), healing traditions such as herbal medicine, caring ethics, spirituality, repatriation, healthcare reform, and global health policy. The Bamboo Bridge specializes in the promotion of person/community centered care and coaching with a respect for all health beliefs.... more

What is Cultural Diplomacy?

Cultural diplomacy is defined by the International Institute for Cultural Diplomacy as,"A course of actions, which are based on and utilize the exchange of ideas, values, traditions and other aspects of culture or identity, whether to strengthen relationships, enhance socio-cultural cooperation or promote national interests; Cultural diplomacy can be practiced by either the public sector, private sector or civil society."

Cultural Diplomacy is the action one takes to demonstrate internalized qualities of cultural awareness and sensitivity. Diplomacy is the highly refined communication skill demonstrated when engaging in relationships between peoples of different cultures. It is an antidote to the culture clashes that can lead to frustration, power struggle, anger, and violence.
