Deborah Sandella Dr. Mavis Mulaudzi is the Head of Department in Nursing at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.  Prior to this position she was a Associate Professor of Research at Northwest University in Potchefstroom and a lecturer at the University of South Africa. She received her DLitt et Phil in Nursing from the University of South Africa.

Dr. Mulaudzi's homeland is Venda, a rural village in Limpopo province, South Africa. She received her diploma in nursing at Venda Nursing College. She has written and spoken extensively on the African philosophy of Ubuntu and its application in nursing. As a leader in nursing in South Africa, she has been involved in evolving nursing ethics in the changing country of South Africa and the world. She has delivered papers internationally on ethics, moral renaissance in the nursing profession, domestic violence, Batho pele principles, human rights and midwifery. She is very interested in interrogating human rights discourses and ethics that are informed by both Western and Africa-based epistemologies, such as Ubuntu. Dr. Mulaudzi's research interests include human rights, ethics, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

She is a member of the research committee of the Africa Honor Society of Nursing (Tau Lambda) and a board member of the Indigenous Knowledge System of South Africa Trust (IKSSA).
