Herbal Remedies
For
centuries, nurses around the globe have been enlisting the aid of the
plant kingdom when caring for patients in their communities. Healing
plants have been my “teachers” for many years. My maternal grandfather
first introduced me to the healing power of plants when I was a very
small child. My mother’s family is from Cornwall in England. We are
very close to plants, birds, and the earth. That is our way. My mother
taught me organic gardening and took me on my first medicine walk to
find checkerberries (Gaultheria procumbens) in the mountains
of New Hampshire, USA. Checkerberry is also known as wintergreen. We
were fortunate to find one berry on that first walk. Mother sat down on
a large stone with my sister, my brother, and me; and she cut the tiny
berry into four pieces for us. I will never forget the taste of that
berry! Do you remember your first experiences with healing
plants?
If you love plants and enjoy working with them as you care for others, you have come to the right place! The Bamboo Bridge
holds enthusiastic discussion and educational programs on all topics related to the
nurse-plant-patient relationship. Your love of the green world,
flowers, and the life force they impart is quite welcome here. The Bamboo Bridge Community explores and celebrates the
traditional, conventional, and visionary ways that engaging plant life
has historically and continues to enrich and refresh nursing.
Primary Purpose:
Our purpose is to build a
community of nurse scholars and healers who have a caring connection
with plants. This community is a place for communicating, connecting,
sharing, and celebrating your work with people and plants.
